Zippay is launching today – will you use it?

The new in-app payment feature is being rolled out from today.

ZIPPAY IS BEING rolled out from today by AIB, Bank of Ireland and PTSB.

The in-app banking service, similar to Revolut, aims to make instant mobile payments quicker by using phone numbers rather than IBANs.

Zippay is an attempt by Ireland’s main banks to offer a function similar to Revolut (which has been available in Ireland for more than a decade) within their own apps, without customers needing to use to a separate payment platform.

You may not see the service appear on your individual banking app just yet, as the rollout begins today on a phased basis.

And if you’re wondering what you need to know ahead of it landing on your phone (if you decide to use it at all), The Journal has a guide here.

So we wanted to ask: Do you think you will use Zippay?

Poll Results:

No – I’ll just stick with Revolut/other apps (3690)
Yes – but I’d use it alongside Revolut/other apps (2633)
I’m not sure (1161)
Yes – I’d consider switching to it entirely (1066)
No – I don’t use instant payment services at all (994)
