"A difficult and hard day for the party", says Green's Eamon Ryan

Former Green Party minister Eamon Ryan says he is in a difficult position to hold is Dublin South seat, but says his party remains united and will “come back strong”.

FORMER MINISTER EAMON RYAN has said it is a difficult and hard day for the Green Party as its candidates appear to be struggling for seats.

Ryan, who looks likely to lose his seat, thanked his supporters in Dublin South where counting continues.

Speaking on RTÉ Radio One, Ryan said he and his colleagues remain united as a party and they would re-organise and discuss a new direction, and he is determined the party will “come back strong”.

“While it’s been a difficult day for us, one of our strengths is that we are united, we’re experienced”, Ryan said.

He said they would respect the public’s decision, but would “dust ourselves down after this” and carry on.

Ryan’s colleague Paul Gogarty was the first TD to concede, as Ferdinand von Prondzynsky warned TheJournal.ie that this election could be the end of the Green Party completely.
