From campervans to paddleboarding: Here's what's happening this bank holiday weekend
Here’s a round-up of the events taking place across Ireland over the bank holiday weekend.
IT’S A BANK holiday and if you don’t have any plans for that extra day off, don’t worry – there are plenty of events happening around the country.
Here’s some of this weekend’s highlights:
Dublin:
Bloom, one of Ireland’s biggest gardening festivals is still running at the Phoenix Park. The event provides a showcase for plants, garden design, construction, horticulture and gardening as a hobby. Organisers say the event has something in store for all the family, with a book club for young readers, a magician and a ‘little gardeners planting plot’. Another festival for those in the capital, the Dublin Port Riverfest is happening all weekend. The festival will be energising the banks of the River Liffey from the Sean O’Casey bridge, right through to Dublin Port and into Dublin Bay.
The weekend will be packed with water activities, from river ferries and cruises, to paddle-boarding and kayaking.
Kerry
Here’s one for the lovers of underground music - Killorglin is home to K-Fest until Monday. K-Fest is a small festival celebration for emerging artists and musical talents. Over four days, more than 120 artists will perform at the festival. Click here for more information about this free event.
Moving over to Killarney, the Ireland BikeFest is taking place until Monday evening. The folks behind the festival say that motorcycle and music showcases will leave everyone with an adrenaline rush at the end of the weekend.
Louth
Looking for a family friendly event? This one could be for you.
Vantastival 2017 has something in store for everyone this bank holiday weekend. A range of live musical acts will take to the stage over the coming days, while a focus on the campervan lifestyle brings an extra dimension to the only festival of its kind in Ireland. Cork
Starting today, the Cork Harbour Festival is a week-long celebration of Ireland’s maritime heritage, set in the second largest natural harbour in the world. The flagship rowing event of the festival, ‘An Rás Mór’, attracts hundreds of participants from all over the world competing in wooden boats, currachs, Chinese dragon boats and more. The Gweedore Seafood & Music Festival 2017 is kicking off in Donegal this weekend. The event offers the chance to see a range of music, experience the local culture and taste fresh seafood.
Waterford
Lismore Castle is home to Ireland’s only summer opera festival this weekend. Founded in 2010 by a small group of opera professionals, the festival has continued to grow every year.
The event incorporates its surrounding landscape, architecture and gardens to bring a fantastic day out to all that attend.
