THE FAMILY OF missing teenager Becky Watts say they are devastated by the news that police searching for the 16-year-old girl have found body parts.
The 16-year-old was last seen at her home in Bristol on 19 February. She was reported missing the next day, and there have been extensive searches carried out of the surrounding area by volunteers and police.
Today, police said that body parts were found at a house in Bristol.
A man (28) and woman (21) were arrested on suspicion of her murder yesterday and following today’s grim discovery, five further arrests were made on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Releasing a statement through police, Becky’s mum Tania, her grandmother Pat and brother Daniel said:
We are at an utter loss to understand why anyone would want to hurt our beautiful Becky in such a brutal way.
“We are grateful to the police for all they have done and are continuing to do in this investigation.”
“Whilst there are people in custody, none of whom are connected to the Watts family, we will not be making any further comment and we ask that our privacy is respected at this horrific time.”
Police have been given extra time to question the two people arrested yesterday on suspicion of murdering Becky.
During a short hearing at Bristol Magistrates’ Court, officers were granted a further 24 hours to question the man and woman. They remain in custody.
