Cash-in-transit raider flees on foot after getaway car fails to start

The cash box was recovered by gardaí after the raid at the AIB in West End Retail Park.

A YOUTH WHO tried to make off with a cash box following a raid on a cash-in-transit van in Dublin 15 today had to make his escape on foot after his getaway car failed to start.

The raid at the AIB at West End Retail Park happened shortly before 3pm.

A cash-in-transit worker was approached by a lone raider close to the bank’s ATM and threatened with what gardaí say was a suspected handgun.

The raider attained the cash-box, and got into a waiting car – but was forced instead to run away from the scene after the vehicle stalled. He fled in the direction of Blanchardstown town centre.

The full cash-box was recovered close by.

Gardaí at Blanchardstown are investigating, and anyone with information is being asked to contact them at 01 666 7000.
