AN 11-YEAR-OLD girl has helped deliver her new baby sister into the world.

The Birmingham Mail reports that Caitlin Burke, a schoolgirl from Tamworth, near Birmingham, answered the call when her mother Tara Knightley’s waters broke unexpectedly at their home.

Caitlin then proceeded to deliver her baby sister (named Elsa-Monet) while taking direction from emergency services over the phone, even going so far as to unravel the baby’s umbilical cord. Once the baby was born Caitlin rubbed her to stimulate her senses as she wasn’t crying.

Once her mother was taken into care by the emergency services Caitlin went to school where she took lessons as normal, although she could be forgiven if her mind was elsewhere.

“I was a bit scared and shaky at first because I had never seen anything like that before in my life,” she told the Birmingham Mail.

But when my sister was born, I was really happy. I think she’s really cute and I love her very much.

My friends at school and the teachers were really happy and proud of me.

Caitlin’s mother’s waters broke at about 5am last Tuesday, just minutes after her partner had left the house.

The delivery took two hours, with baby Elsa-Monet coming into the world at about 7am.

“Caitlin was just amazing. I find it difficult to put into words just what she has done for me,” her mother said.

I couldn’t do what Caitlin has done at my age, let alone at the age of 11. We are all so proud of her.
