'I'm still a Trump fan': Former Chief of Staff said he wasn't pushed out and chose to resign

Reince Priebus was called a “paranoid schizophrenic” by Trump’s top communications aide just before he stood aside.

US PRESIDENT DONALD Trump’s former Chief of Staff Reince Priebus has said that he had formally tendered his resignation on Thursday, and that he’s still a big Trump supporter.

Yesterday, Trump announced that he had picked Homeland Security chief John F Kelly as the new Chief of Staff.

The news of a new man at the helm came a day after it had emerged that Trump’s new communications chief had called Priebus a “fucking paranoid schizophrenic”.

In a conversation with a reporter at the New Yorker, which Anthony Scaramucci didn’t know was on the record, he launched a blistering attack on senior Trump advisers, accusing them of leaking information to the press.

Speaking to CNN, Priebus repeatedly said that he had submitted his resignation to the President on Thursday, and that he was still very much a Trump supporter.

He said: “The President wanted to go a different direction.

A President has a right to hit a reset button. I think it’s a good time to hit the reset button. I think he was right to hit the reset button.

“I’m always going to be a Trump fan. I’m on Team Trump and I look forward to helping him achieve his goals and his agenda for the American people.”

Priebus admitted that he and Trump “talked all the time” on the subject of his departure.

As the news dropped via Twitter, Priebus was exiting Air Force One into pouring rain. He went into a car with senior White House aides Steven Miller and Dan Scavino.

Moments later, Miller and Scavino got out and entered another van. Priebus’s vehicle then left the presidential motorcade.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said discussions about Priebus’s departure had been taking place for weeks.

John F Kelly, who the President says is a “great American” and has been a “true star” of Trump’s administration so far, will be sworn in on Monday.
