IF YOU’RE IN Dublin for Culture Night this year, here’s some advice: get out and take in as much as you can.

Hundreds of venues across the city will throw open their doors to the public on Friday for an evening of heritage, culture and fun for all ages – and all events are free.

Yesterday, we looked at what’s happening in the west of Ireland, and today we’re turning our eye to some of the best events on offer in the capital.

City – South

• Explore Marsh’s Library and its early enlightenment collection between 5:30pm and 8:30pm.
• There’ll be free tours, storytelling and live music at Christchurch Cathedral from 6pm.
• Dublin Castle will be lit up for a live concert beginning at 7:30pm.
• The Freemasons’ Hall, home to the secretive Grand Lodge of Ireland, is open to visitors from 5pm to 11pm, with live music provided by the National Youth Orchestra.

City – North

• The Abbey Theatre will be running guided tours through its costume and props department.
• Art workshops, live music and free tours are among the Hugh Lane‘s programme highlights.
• Lilliput Press in Stoneybatter is opening its doors until 9pm for an evening of literature, featuring readings from writers including Donal Ryan.
• Not to be outdone, the Dublin Buddhist Centre is offering free yoga classes from 4pm.

Greater Dublin

• The reception rooms of Farmleigh House, the Guinness family’s grand old estate, are open to the public until 9pm.
• Dunsink Observatory, the former home of scientist William Rowan Hamilton, is also hosting visitors between 7pm and 11pm.
• Wander around the Pearse Museum in Rathfarnham, where the 1916 leader ran his school, St Enda’s, from 5pm to 10pm.
• Check out the Glasnevin cemetery and interactive museum, open from 5pm to 9pm.
• Take a free tour of the Airfield Estate in Dundrum between 5pm and 9pm.
• Guided tours are also being offered by Malahide Castle until 8pm.
