Community in shock as fiancée charged with murder of David Walsh in Sydney

David Walsh came from a “decent, hard-working family” in Enniscorthy, locals said.

THE LOCAL COMMUNITY in Enniscorthy was described as being in shock today, after the news emerged that local man David Walsh had been stabbed to death in Sydney, Australia.

A 25-year-old Irish woman – believed to be his fiancée - has been charged with his murder by New South Wales Police, and is due to appear in court tomorrow.

The 29-year-old, and father-of-three, was originally from Wexford but had moved to Australia around three years ago.

He is believed to have originally been from the Moran Park area of Enniscorthy.

Local councillor Johnny Mythen told TheJournal.ie that the news has left the community reeling.

“We’re all just in a state of total shock,” Mythen said. “It’s sent ripples through the whole area.

He was a decent, hard-working young chap from a decent, hard working family, who’ve been like that all of their lives.

Mythen added that Walsh was the father of three young girls under the age of 11, from a previous relationship, who still lived in Ireland.

“For something like this to happen so far away, it’s just so hard to get your head around,” the councillor added.

A number of tributes have been paid to Walsh, known affectionately as “Motcha”, on social media.

He was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency services were called to a house on Watson Road in Padstow, south-west of Sydney.

When police arrived at the scene they found the 29-year-old critically injured with a stab wound to his neck.

The 25-year-old woman charged with Walsh’s murder was refused bail and is due to appear in Parramatta Local Court tomorrow.

A 36-year-old man from the nearby Revesby area was also arrested and is said to be assisting police with their inquiries.

Comments have been closed as legal proceedings are ongoing.
