DONALD TRUMP HAS just been given a major boost in his bid for the presidency after receiving the endorsement of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
Christie himself was in the running for the Republican nomination but dropped out after his candidacy failed to strike much of a chord with voters.
His decision to back Trump makes him the first ex-candidate to do so and comes on the back of Trump’s victories in Nevada and New Hampshire.
At a news conference in Fort Worth, Texas today Christie said that Trump,
will do what needs to be done to protect the American people.
After Jeb Bush’s withdrawal from the race last week, the remaining candidates rounded on Trump in a debate overnight as they seek to be seen as the most viable alternative to the property tycoon.
Next week. the race sees ‘Super Tuesday’ when a host of different states select their preferred candidates from each side.
Comprehensive victories for Trump in these states could ultimately prove conclusive for his candidacy.
Some have already speculated that Christie’s endorsement of Trump is an attempt to become his vice-presidential running mate if Trump becomes the eventual Republican nominee.
