Two drown in tragic Kildare and Limerick incidents

Gardaí have warned people to take extreme care when swimming in any body of water.

TWO PEOPLE HAVE drowned in separate incidents over the past day.

Gardaí in Celbridge are investigating a drowning incident which occurred at approximately 4pm today at Castletown Estate in Celbridge, Co Kildare.

A 17-year-old male got into difficulties in the river. He was taken from the water and brought to hospital in Blanchardstown, where he was pronounced dead at at 5pm this evening.

An investigation is ongoing.

A 21-year-old woman has also died in a drowning incident.

She was in the River Feale, near Abbeyfeale in Limerick, when the incident occurred. The woman was pronounced dead at 1am today.

She had been at the river with a group of people, gardaí said.

Gardaí have appealed to people to be very careful in and around lakes, rivers, the sea and other bodies of water.

They have also warned people not to swim in disused quarries.
