UK crews drafted in, as thousands of homes in the south still without power
The workers are being sent to provide back-up in the worst affected areas — including Kerry, Newcastlewest, Tipperary and Enniscorthy.
SOME 8,000 HOMES and businesses around the country are still without electricity this morning in the wake of last week’s massive storm.
Additional crews from the UK will begin to arrive today to help the reconnection effort. They’ll be sent to the worst affected areas — including Kerry, Newcastlewest , Tipperary and Enniscorthy.
Yesterday, supply was restored to almost all customers impacted by the storm in Waterford, Portlaoise and Cork City.
In its latest update this morning, ESB Networks said over over 3,500 faults still existed on the network, and that it would be “well into the week before” power is restored to all customers.
According to the update:
The damage to the network caused by thousands of falling trees and flying objects was worse than even first anticipated, resulting in the restoration process being slower than for normal storms.The additional wind and rain causing more faults and soggy ground conditions also hampered the speed of the repair work.

People are being reminded of the dangers posed by fallen power lines, and a particular warning is being issued to parents — as children may be playing outside during mid term break.
