Fire destroys Top of Coom, Ireland's highest pub

Nobody was injured in the incident.

IT TOOK THREE units from the Kerry fire brigade over six hours to tackle a blaze at a landmark publican house on the Kerry-Cork border last night.

The fire destroyed Top of Coom, known in the area as the highest pub in Ireland.

Owned by the Creedon family, the pub is a landmark for tourists despite its ongoing dispute with Johnie Fox’s in Dublin about which is the highest bar in Ireland.

Owen O’Donnell, senior assistant fire chief for Kerry, told TheJournal.ie that about 15 personnel from Kenmare and Killarney fire stations were deployed to the scene of the fire at about 9.15pm last night.

The property was “fairly well alight” by the time the units got to the site and the building was “well destroyed” in the fire. They continued to tackle the blaze until about 4.45am when it was eventually put out.

Nobody was injured in the fire.
