Fox News mocks Chelsea Manning with "Dude (Looks Like A Lady)"

The cable news network’s Fox and Friends show trailed a piece on the use of female pronouns for the jailed Wikileaks informant with the Aerosmith hit.

AFTER THE NEW York Times and Associated Press both announced that they would be following the wishes of jailed US whistleblower Chelsea Manning, America’s most-watched morning cable news show carried a piece on it.

However, Fox and Friends on Fox News did not only disregard the wishes of the former Bradley Manning, someone decided to trail the piece with Aerosmith’s Dude (Looks Like A Lady) laid over it.

Manning made the announcement last week that she wished to live her life as a woman, just a day after being sentenced to 35 years in a military prison for handing over classified documents to anti-secrecy group Wikileaks.

The station had already come under fire after American Newsroom host Gregg Jarrett had point-blank refused to address Manning as Chelsea, stating “I don’t do what Bradley Manning tells me to do.”

The Times announced on Monday that they will use the name Chelsea, as well as female pronouns, while the Associated Press said that their style guide would advise referring to the jailed Wikileaks source as Chelsea E Manning, “per her wishes”.

Trans Media Watch, a charity that monitors media coverage of transgender people have called on media organisations to respect Chelsea Manning’s wishes.

“It is now widely understood that most trans people have consistent gender identities from early in their lives. Chelsea has said clearly that she has felt female since childhood. She is no less entitled to respect for that identity because it doesn’t match her appearance.”
