Crackdown on organised crime sees 236 searches, more than 50 arrests

Operation Wireless is part of an ongoing strategy targeting the criminal activity and organised criminal actions of a number of selected targets.

AS PART OF a nationwide operation against organised crime, Gardaí carried out 236 planned searches and arrested more than 50 people yesterday.

The suspects have been detained at various stations across the country in relation to offences of drug trafficking, robbery, burglary and aggravated burglary, possession of firearms, theft, handling stolen property and other drugs-related offences.

One Polish national was arrested on foot of an outstanding European Arrest Warrant. He is wanted in his native country in relation to a serious assault charge.

The Garda press office said Operation Wireless is part of an ongoing strategy targeting the criminal activity and organised criminal actions of a number of selected targets.

All 236 searches were carried out early yesterday morning. Investigating Gardaí were looking for stolen property, drugs, cannabis grow houses, firearms and any other evidence relevant to ongoing criminal investigations.

About 2,400 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of €3.5 million were seized at different growhouses in Rathcormack, Cork, Clonraoche, Wexford, Laytown and Dublin.
