GARDAÍ HAVE ARRESTED five people as part of a major drugs investigation across the country in which up to €5 million worth of cannabis plants were seized.
Four large industrial-style grow houses were discovered in raids carried out on industrial units in Louth, Mayo, Waterford and Kildare.
A number of units in Dublin were also searched and a storage depot for equipment used to cultivate cannabis plants was discovered in Blanchardstown.
Gardaí discovered an estimated €1.6 million worth of cannabis plants in Tramore in Waterford, €1.4 million worth in Swinford in Mayo, €1.2 million worth in Ardee in Louth and €800,000 worth in Newbridge in Kildare.
The searches were carried out by the Garda National Drug Unit along with local gardaí.
Of the five men arrested in connection with the seizures, two are being held in Ballina, two are being held in Tramore, and one is being held in Drogheda.
All are being held under the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.
