GARDAÍ YESTERDAY APPEALED to motorcyclists to be careful this May Bank Holiday.
Motorcyclists accounted for 14 per cent of Ireland’s road deaths last year, despite only accounting for two per cent of vehicles.
At a Garda briefing yesterday, gardaí showed some clips of near misses on Ireland’s roads.
In the first, a motorcyclist attempts to outrun a Garda car on the M50, narrowly avoiding being taken off his bike by a car.
In the second, gardaí illustrated just how easy it is for a driver who is not paying attention to hit a motorcyclist. The driver of an SUV doesn’t check their blind spot and almost hits a car to their right. Unfortunately for them, the car is a Garda Traffic Corps car.
In the third clip, a motorcyclist reaches speeds of over 200km per hour in an attempt to lose gardaí.
