Junior minister John Perry reaches deal with bank over €2.4 million debt

Minister for Small Business John Perry and his wife had a judgment of €2.47 million entered against them in the Commercial Court in July.

JUNIOR MINISTER JOHN Perry has reportedly reached an agreement with Danske Bank over a debt worth more than €2.4 million.

A judgment of €2.47 million was made against the Minister for Small Business and his wife in the Commercial Court in July, after Danske Bank sued the couple over loans connected to a number of properties in Perry’s constituency of Sligo- North Leitrim.

Judge Peter Kelly had granted the couple a stay on the execution and registration of the judgment until today.

RTE News reports that Perry has reached an agreement with the bank, but that the details of the agreement are confidential, according to the junior minister.

Perry is reported as saying that his tax affairs have been and remain up to date, and that he would be making no further comment on the matter.

Most Government TDs had refused to comment directly on Perry’s business affairs, beyond saying that they had confidence in his ability to remain as Minister of State for Small Business.

Richard Bruton said that Perry was in the same boat as many other business owners across the country and said he deserved to be allowed to deal with his “very difficult issues”.
