I’m quite surprised that it’s “red thumbed” comments rather than the dangerous state of Irish roads that seems to annoy people most. Road fatalities for children aged 0-14 here are four times the rate of the Netherlands. Our rates are one of the highest in the EU and are far ahead of most countries on the continent . My own village built a lovely GAA pitch a 1/2 mile from the village but there’s no footpath for the children walking there so they walk on the road. Inexplicable. We build so many facilities and houses in the countryside and then have to ferry our kids everywhere by car because we haven’t provided somewhere safe for them to walk or cycle.

Poor little guy! I feel so sad when I read stories like this-a young life snuffed out and a family plunged into every parent’s worst nightmare. I have a little girl who’s nearly 5 and can’t imagine the horror of losing her. I pray the family gets the strength to somehow go on. God help them.

Horrific, something needs to be done to reduce the speed of vehicles passing people’s homes put life’s before convenience.
