Derry woman's organs to be donated after tests reveal no brain activity
She collapsed in the shower hours after trekking up a volcano while on holiday with friends in Indonesia.
THE FAMILY OF Lisa Orsi have accepted that there’s no hope she can recover after tests revealed that she has no brain activity.
The 22-year-old Derry woman collapsed on Friday after a trip to a volcano in Indonesia.
Her family flew to be by her side in hospital last week and today her parents granted permission for Lisa to be flown to Singapore – where her organs will be used for transplantation.
Her uncle Peter told the Belfast Telegraph, ”We had hoped for a miracle, but sadly it was not to be. But Lisa herself will create miracles for six other people through her organ donations.”
Orsi had worked as a physiotherapist in Singapore for the past year and played for the local GAA team, the Singapore Gaelic Lions.
She collapsed in the shower hours after trekking up a volcano while on holiday with friends in Indonesia.
Peter added that, “Lisa’s vitality, energy and beauty will live on in the hearts of the hundreds of people who were lucky to have known her.”
More than £18,000 has been collected on an online funding site set up by a close friend to help cover the travel costs and medical bills facing Lisa’s family. Peter said:
We have been overwhelmed by the amount of support we have had from so many people, many of them never met Lisa but they still care.
“I have not got enough words to thank them, but they can be assured that they have our deepest appreciation and they will never be forgotten.”
