IT’S BEEN A busy day on the roads for Dublin Fire Brigade.

Earlier this afternoon two units from the service were dispatched to the M1 motorway near Swords were a car had caught fire.

Traffic in the area was slowed to one lane for a time after the car caught fire on the motorway’s hard shoulder. The motorway was closed for 15 minutes while DFB personnel dealt with the blaze.

But that wasn’t to be the end of the working day for the firefighters.

Subsequent to this the service was called to the scene of a car rollover in Tallaght with the driver trapped inside.

Specialised cutting gear had to be used to release the driver, who was then taken to hospital with minor injuries. And even that wasn’t the end of it.

Just two hours ago another DFB unit was dispatched to deal with a car that had run off the road on the old Dublin-Belfast road near Balbriggan. That accident was attributed to the heavy rain being seen across the country.

A busy day for all concerned. And a healthy reminder to us all to be careful on the roads in such bad weather.
