Man dies after Cork stabbing

David Hamilton, 31, has died from injuries sustained on Friday.

A MAN WHO was found unconscious on the side of a road in Cork last Friday has died from injuries sustained in a stabbing incident.

The victim has been named as 31-year-old David Hamilton.

He was found unconscious on the roadside at Kerryhall Road in Fairhill on the afternoon of 4 May and taken to Cork University Hospital, where he died yesterday evening.

A post mortem will be carried out on his body later this morning as Gardaí in Cork upgrade the investigation to a murder inquiry.

Two men, one in his early 50s and another in his late 30s, were arrested on Friday night and detained at Mayfield and Gurranabraher garda stations.

The 38-year-old has been charged and is due in court later this morning.

This was one of two fatal stabbing incidents in Cork over the weekend. Separately, 31-year-old Mark Hanlon was stabbed at Infirmary Road shortly after 2am on Sunday. He was treated for a stab wound to the chest at Cork University Hospital but he was pronounced dead a short time later. Another man has been charged in connection with that incident.
