Man dies after staying up too long to watch the World Cup

The issue of exhaustion during football events is an ongoing problem in China.

A CHINESE MAN was found dead after apparently staying up all night to watch a World Cup match.

The 25-year-old had stayed up all night on Friday to watch the Netherlands’ comprehensive victory over Spain.

He was found early on Saturday morning, his television set still airing football, the Xinhua News Agency reports.

Doctors at Xiangcheng People’s Hospital say that they believe his death could be linked to staying up to watch the game, which aired in the middle of the night in China.

Although doctors did not specify what exactly may have caused the death, exhaustion or a heart attack have been given as possible factors.

Doctors warned football fans to be cautious about their health.

The news agency says that there may be more deaths.

The issue is not a new one in China, where football fans are often hours ahead of major tournaments.

During Euro 2012, one man stayed awake for 11 days to watch games and died.

Similar problems were reported for both the 2006 and 2010 World Cup tournaments.
