Man 'fighting for his life' after Limerick crash which Garda Ombudsman to investigate

A marked garda car had been in pursuit of another car when the incident occurred and the Garda Ombudsman is to investigate.

THE OFFICE OF the Garda Ombudsman has been asked to investigate a serious car collision in Limerick overnight in which three people were injured. One male is said to be fighting for his life.

Gardaí referred the matter to the Ombudsman at around 12.15am this morning, RTÉ reports, after a young male driver, aged 17, was seriously injured and two women received non-life threatening injuries following a collision in the Punches Cross/O’Connell Avenue area of Limerick City.

A marked garda car had been in pursuit of another car when the incident occurred. The injured persons are at Mid West Regional Hospital in Limerick.

The seriously injured 17-year-old is said to be fighting for his life, according to the Irish Examiner.
