Man in critical condition after Mullingar assault

Three people were arrested in relation to the incident but were later released without charge.

GARDAÍ IN WESTMEATH are investigating the circumstances of an assault that has left one man in critical condition in hospital.

The man in this 20s was seriously assaulted on Pearse Street in Mullingar at 2.40am on Friday, 23 December.

The victim was taken from the scene and brought to Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar. He has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital where he is said to be in a critical condition.

Two men, aged 20 and 21, and a 19-year-old woman were arrested and detained in relation to the incident but were later released without charge.

Investigating Gardaí have appealed for any witnesses who were in the Pearse Street area of Mullingar between 2am and 3am on Friday. Anybody with information can contact Mullingar station on 044 938 4035 or the Confidential Line on 1 800 666 111.
