  • There are a considerable number of older people who never sat a driving test because they never had to do a test at the time to get a full licence. There are also a large number of middle aged persons who never sat test because of the amnesty licences in 1979 whereby if you were crap enough not to have passed your test by your 3rd provisional they gave you a full licence anyway.

To add insult to injury the only persons I know with full EB Car/Trailer >3500kg licences are people who never sat a test to get one and probably never ever towed a trailer. A person with a current full clean B licence who gets a provisional licence to tow a trailer >3,500kg car/trailer combined weight needs to get one of these untested wallys to sit in the car beside them to legally drive an EB combo.

None of two examples above ever demonstrated they were capable of driving in a safe manner. They should all require a passed test to renew their current licence when it expires.

    • Gavin your problem with the licensing situation has nothing what so ever to do with the fatal accidents the last few days.

These are tragic accidents but stop trying to deflect from the cause of these accidents.

If the licensing issues were resolved how would you deflect from driver responsibility then?

    • It will never stop. It may reduce the amount of casualties but its not always the drivers fault. The RSA never seem to tell us the causes of accidents. Like the councils negligence to repair damage to roads, road markings, signs, if roads had to pass a test similar to an NCT cars a lot of motorists would be stranded in their own driveways

    • @Sean – I agree roads could be better but the last few fatalities were local lads on local roads. Do you really think any organisation would be thanked for coming out and saying that it was the drivers fault. You should know we are not allowed say anything controversial about the dead in this country.

Twice in the last three days I have witnessed ridiculously slow drivers causing people to overtake due to frustration. On both occasions these people were elderly and one was doing 25 to 30 miles an hour on a national road. Added to this yesterday not four miles from that crash in which the two you men died I witnessed an elderly woman come across the motorway and turn in the wrong direction. It is not just young people there are people out there who should lose their licence when they reach a certain age

RIP indeed. However many of the lunatic manoeuvres I often witness are due to slow drivers holding up long lines of traffic, if you are one of these drivers please pull in to allow the average driver pass safely.
