NINE PEOPLE HAVE been killed on their way to a wedding in Afghanistan after a roadside bomb exploded, killing all people inside a minibus.
Six women, two men and one child – all civilians – died when the blast occurred in Baghlan province, north of Kabul, according to governor Abdul Majid.
Those responsible for the attack have not yet been identified, AFP reports. The fatal blast comes just one day after six civilians travelling in a minibus were killed in almost identical attack in Helmand province.
Reuters reports that civilian casualties have reached record levels in Afghanistan, where violent attacks by insurgents using improvised explosive devices (IEDs) are occurring with increasing frequency.
