AN ATTENDEE OF a small festival staged in north-east Cork died this morning.

The man in his 30s was at the Love is a Stranger festival at Ballyvolane House in Castlelyons, Co Cork.

It is understood the alarm was raised after he was found unresponsive in a tent on the grounds. CPR was performed but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardaí confirmed they had been alerted to a medical emergency shortly after 11.30am this morning.

“The coroner has been notified and a post-mortem will be arranged,” a garda spokesperson said.

A spokesperson for the festival organisers confirmed the attendee’s death, saying: “As a small team, we are absolutely devastated to learn of the death of a festival attendee at Love is a Stranger today.

“Our thoughts are with the individual’s family, friends, and loved ones at this extremely difficult time.”

The spokesperson added that the festival organisers are assisting gardaí and emergency services “in every way possible”, and they will not be commenting further while there are ongoing inquiries. 

“Out of respect for those affected, today’s closing concert has been cancelled.”

Love is a Stranger thanked the emergency services, its own crew, volunteers, attendees and hosts for their “support and understanding”.

The roaming mini-festival series kicked off with “very limited” early access tickets on Friday, had its main event on Saturday, and was due to wrap up today.

It took place across the grounds, main house, and renovated barns of the four-star hotel.
