THIS IS OPEL’S brand new concept vehicle: the Opel GT X Experimental – a five-door, 4.06-metre long, all-electric compact SUV with coupé styling.

The concept car is a design study highlighting how its future cars will evolve and look under the ownership of the PSA Peugeot-Citroen group.

The name of the GT X Experimental is reminiscent of Opel’s 1965 concept car, the Experimental GT. The ‘X’ symbolises Opel’s plan to further develop its footprint in the SUV market (the company estimates that 40 per cent of all Opels sold in 2021 will be SUVs).

The Opel GT X Experimental looks a little like the 2016 Opel GT coupé with its sleek and smooth design. 

There appears to be no door handles and the exterior mirrors have been replaced by small cameras, which pop out of panels hidden in the yellow accent line. That sweeping panoramic windscreen/roof reaches far back to the rear seats.

The wheels are 17 inches but look bigger thanks to rubber covers that flow over the rim.

The car's face features an all-digital panel called the Opel Visor, which has an LED version of the Opel 'Blitz' lightning badge, changing colour depending on the operating status of the car.

You won't have to wait long to see this new design language in action, as Opel says parts of it will be applied to models from the mid 2020s.
