Official Visit

Hello Mr President, I'm the President: Michael D begins French visit

Michael D Higgins met with French president Francois Hollande, and launched an exhibition of the work of Eileen Gray.

PRESIDENT MICHAEL D. Higgins has met President Francois Hollande and launched a major art exhibition, on the first day of a three-day visit to France.

The meeting between the two presidents focussed on EU affairs, and on Ireland’s presidency of the European Union.

Higgins also visited the Pompidou Centre for a preview of an exhibition looking at the life and prolific work of Irish-born architect and furniture designer Eileen Gray, who lived in France for 70 years before her death in 1976.

The exhibition opens to the public later in the week.

Later this week Higgins is due to visit the Irish College, which for three centuries was a Catholic educational establishment for Irish students and now serves as a cultural centre and a residence for Irish students, writers and artists.
