Dear Enda...Here's Eamon Gilmore's heartfelt resignation letter to the Taoiseach

THIS IS THE letter that Eamon Gilmore sent to the Taoiseach today as Labour get set to elect a new leader.

Joan Burton is the firm favourite to take over the top job with the counting of votes well underway.

She will also be formally appointed as Tánaiste later today.

The text of the letter, in full:

Dear Enda,
As you know, the new Leader of the Labour Party will be elected later today.I am, therefore, now resigning the office of Tánaiste to enable you to nominate my successor at the earliest possible time.It has been a privilege and an honour to work with you in the leadership of Government during a very difficult time in our country’s history. I wish to thank you personally for the courtesy and co-operation which characterised our work together.
