1. #LEVESON: Following an eight-month inquiry on foot of the UK hacking scandal, the initial Leveson Report into the culture, practice, and ethics of the British press was released today. Lord Leveson said that a new independent regulatory body should be set up so that the press could regulate itself, and also criticised the link between politicians and the press.

2. #CLOSE CALL: The Taoiseach Enda Kenny was at UCD today for the opening of a new student centre – and was met by a number of angry protesters who threw eggs at him. Luckily for Kenny, they missed.

3. #UN: The Palestinians are expected to win UN recognition as a state in a General Assembly vote today. Israel and the United States have warned that such a move could delay hopes of achieving an independent Palestinian homeland through peace talks.

4. #TOURISM: Tourism Ireland has launched a three-year marketing campaign to attract US visitors to Ireland, with an aim of increasing the number of American tourists by 20 per cent between 2013 and 2015.

5. #JOBSWATCH: The Dublin branch of the Luxembourg-based investment funds company Clearstream is to create 100 jobs, the Minister for FinanceMichael Noonan has announced. Owned by Deutsche Börse AG, it is one of the largest exchange organisations in the world and looks after 2,500 financial institutions in more than 110 countries.
