Three killed in 52 vehicle pile-up on German autobahn

The crash happened in foggy conditions on the A31 near the town of Gronau.

THREE PEOPLE HAVE been killed and 35 injured following a 52-vehicle pile-up on a highway in northwestern Germany.

The accident happened yesterday evening on the A31 autobahn near the town of Gronau on the border with the Netherlands. The weather was foggy at the time but police have said that it wasn’t immediately clear what triggered the pileup, but that the fog is likely to have played a role.

Fourteen people were taken to hospitals with their injuries, while twenty-one people suffered light injuries. The Bild newspaper reports that people were treated on site in tents.
