WOODIES HAS MORE than doubled its sale of water butts since last year.
The retailer told TheJournal.ie that total unit sales for water butts has more than doubled since last year and they said that “momentum is still growing”.
They said that the interest in water butts, which allow for the collection of rainwater from your roof and downpipes, has been steadily increasing since July, with even more of an increase in demand in recent months.
Protests
Opposition against the water charges has gained strength in recent weeks, culminating in a march that attracted huge numbers to Dublin’s city centre.
Irish Water has been encouraging customers to install a water butt, or something similar, so that tending to your garden doesn’t impact on your water bill.
The volume of Google searches has also risen this year.
A spokesperson for Woodie’s said they “have seen a huge surge in interest for water butts”.
Water-saving products
They said that they are responding to the rising customer interest in water saving products, and are introducing a broader range of products under the umbrella theme “Water Wise – Why use more than you need” adding that most of these will be hitting the stores in the next couple of weeks.
For the moment water butts would be our biggest seller – but we are also selling high volumes of water saving shower heads like the Mira Eco Three Spray – which has eco efficient technology saving up to 75% water but still delivering great performance.
Woodie’s are have also tapped into people’s interest in water saving measures and have created a tips hub on their website giving consumers helpful tips and advice on how to save on water usage in various parts of your home.
