Pictures: the amazing photos honoured at today's World Press Photo Contest

Some of the greatest photos taken worldwide from the last 12 months were honoured in the contest.

THE 59TH WORLD Press Photo Contest selected its winning images today, and as you might imagine the pictures included are amazing.

With 5,775 photographers having submitted their work, the final list was whittled down to just 41.

21 countries were represented by the final shortlist.
