THE REDBRICK VICTORIAN homes that line Beechwood Avenue are impressive from the outside, but they also pack quite a punch on the inside.
Take 57 Upper Beechwood Avenue in Ranelagh, on the market for €1.25m, which looks like an average semi-detached redbrick on first glance.
When you step through the front door, you realise why the current owners are heartbroken to leave it (though they’re leaving for very positive reasons).
First off, there’s the location: just a short stroll from Ranelagh village, around the corner from the upmarket Dunville Avenue, with its boutiques and sought-after shops; near very good primary and secondary schools; close to the Luas and buses.
It’s situated within a welcoming community, and a gorgeous area that’s quiet but still full of life.
When the current owners bought this house a year ago, it was already in great condition, and had a kitchen extension and attic conversion.
The original wooden flooring and tiling is still there, as are the beautifully detailed fireplaces.
But the new owners brought it to another level.
Take the bathroom, for example, which they outfitted with the sought-after subway tiles that now line the walls.
That’s the Burlington suite in the bathroom above, including a bath with claw feet and the Italian marble floor.
Clean, light tones were used on the walls, letting the owner’s personality speak for itself.
It’s a bit of a blank canvas in a way, but one that has its own distinctive touches.
Even with the kitchen extension, there’s lots of space in the back garden, which has an easterly aspect and has been newly re-landscaped.
There’s room here for raised beds or lots of colourful flowers, but even without that, it’s a pleasant space to spend time in.
They say it’s all about location, location, location, which makes this house a dream home as it is. But add in everything else, and you’ve got quite a special home indeed.
57 Upper Beechwood Avenue is for sale by private treaty through Lisney.
