1. Jessie Buckley made history as the first Irish actress to win Best Actress at the Oscars overnight in LA. There was another Irish win as Dubliner Richard Baneham won Best Visual Effects for Avatar.
2. One Battle After Another was the big winner on the night, bagging six awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, while Michael B Jordan came away with Best Actor for his dual role as twins in Sinners.

3. US president Donald Trump has appealed to China, France, Japan, South Korea, Britain and others to send warships to keep the Strait of Hormuz “open and safe”, but it’s brought no commitments yet as oil prices soar during his and Israel’s war with Iran.
