GOOD MORNING

The 9 at 9 Here’s everything weather (and non-weather) related you need to know as you get up on this cold, wet morning.

EVERY MORNING, TheJournal.ie brings you the nine stories you need to know with your morning coffee.

1. #RED ALERT: Wind, rain, sleet and snow. Take your pick as they’re all here today. Met Éireann has issued a ‘red alert’ weather warning in Cork and Kerry, with the rest of the country also expected to see extremely windy conditions. Don’t blame it on the weatherman.

2. #BUGGING: Members of the Garda Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) will face a grilling at the Public Service Oversight Committee and are sure to face a difficult question or two about how they handled the ongoing bugging controversy.

3. #CONTROVERSIAL: It has sparked fierce debate but Belgium is set to relax its restrictions on euthanasia this week. The new laws will cover children who face “unbearable physical suffering”.

4. #TOYOTA RECALL: Toyota has recalled 700 hybrid Priuses in Ireland over worries that a technical glitch “could slow down the car or bring it to a halt”.

5. #RIP: Tributes have been pouring in for one of the founding members of The Chieftains, Seán Potts, who passed away yesterday. He was 83.

6. #ANOREXIA: wide-ranging study on anorexia nervosa in young people has revealed some worrying trends, including an increase of the condition among boys and men; a link between orthodontic treatment and weight loss; and that children are developing symptoms at a younger age.

7. #TAXES: Business lobby group IBEC has called for a reduction in income tax. It says workers need more money in their pockets to kickstart the economy again but that employers cannot afford to increase wages just yet.

8. #LABOUR COURT: A woman has been awarded €20,000 by the Labour Court for trauma suffered as a result of there being rats and mice present in her workplace.

9. #WEDDING BELLS: About 2,500 identically-dressed couples married in a mass ‘Moonie’ wedding in South Korea today. The Unification Church’s founder Sun Myung Moon died in September 2012 so his widow, Hak Ja Han, presided over the ceremony. Many of the pairs were meeting for the first time with some not even living in the same country.
