Small living room? 6 space-saving alternatives to a traditional Christmas tree

Skip the 8ft tree and opt for a more compact solution this year.

THERE ARE LOTS of reasons why more and more of us are choosing to fake the fir when Christmas rolls around.

Room size, easy upkeep and being environmentally friendly all come into play. Lucky for us, the choice is growing rapidly and it’s easier than ever to branch out (sorry!) and find something a little different to suit any space.

This week, we’ve found six alternatives to the traditional tree that look fab and, even better, won’t leave pesky pine needles everywhere.

Fully twigged: @coxandcox feature this simple tree that consists of rows of wood joined with rope. This is a super idea for apartment living if space is tight – all you need is a blank wall, some fairy lights and your favourite baubles and you’re all set.

Find a similar design on Not on the Highstreet.

Great garlands: @marawilsonart nods to the real thing with a garland that mimics a fir tree. Winding it up the wall to create that unmistakable shape, the star completes the structure and the lights and decorations hark back to a more traditional look.

A few of these pine garlands from New Chic will get you started.

Express your shelf: This look is a little more off the wall and requires some planning. But if you’re a plant fan and follow this idea from @maisondumondeuk, you can create an alternative Christmas tree  with things you already own. The upended books to create the tree stump are the perfect finish.

Simple and chic: Teamed with the right accessories and greenery @itparty.es keeps things simple, but not too bare, with this tree lined in lights and filled with stars. The wreaths to the right side add more texture and dimension – a minimalist, festive vibe that isn’t too clinical or plain.

Visit Debenhams for wreaths, lights and accessories.

Wooden wonder: @janebprints let’s the baubles do the talking, ensuring this modern tree provides the canvas and shape to leave presents underneath. Ideal if you’re a fan of the Scandi theme and want to move away from plastic or buying a real tree every year.

Check out this exact model on Cox & Cox.

Cardboard creation: If you have the space and still want a traditional tree shape, without the maintenance, then check out a contemporary cardboard version. We love how @bottegadicartone still keeps things contemporary and keeps things easy by staying away from baubles.
