Arrest made after man enters Dublin Garda station and issues threats

It’s understood the man was in possession of a knife.

AN ARREST HAS been made after an incident at Blanchardstown Garda Station during which a man entered the building and issued threats. 

The situation, which took place at around 4am, was resolved by Garda negotiators while armed gardaí also attended the scene.  

It’s understood the man was in possession of a knife.  

The road outside the station was closed to traffic for a period of time, leading to significant delays, but has since reopened. 

“An Garda Síochána initiated its Operational Command protocol, appointing an On-Scene Commander. Local Garda negotiators from the National Negotiators Unit, along with the the Armed Support Unit, attended the scene,” a Garda spokesperson said. 

“Arising from the incident, an adult male has been detained under provisions of Section 12 of the Mental Health Act, 2001.”

No injuries were reported and gardaí said investigations were ongoing.
