'We lost everything': Family homeless after house mistakenly targeted in arson attack

The house was attacked during the Christmas period in what’s believed to have been a case of mistaken identity.

A YOUNG WOMAN has described how her have family have “lost everything” and have been left homeless following an arson attack in Dublin over the Christmas period.

Amanda Uwase said her mother remains in hospital following the incident in the early hours of 31 December.

She helped to rescue her family from the blaze as it engulfed their home on Creston Avenue in Finglas.

On social media, Amanda said they have “no way of rebuilding our lives” as she appealed for support.

“There is nothing glamorous about your house burning down while you are still inside,” the DCU student said.

“My family and I managed to escape with our lives.

But we lost everything, my mum is still in hospital and we are now left with no home and no way of rebuilding our lives so please if you can support us feel free to,” she said, adding that they have launched a fundraiser.

“Keep me and my family in your prayers as we go through this difficult time,” Amanda added.

Some of the occupants were forced to flee the burning house through a second-storey window, with some sustaining cuts from broken glass as they escaped.

A total of five people were hospitalised following the fire.

It’s understood the house was not the intended target of the attack and it is believed the fire was meant for another property in the area.
