Police investigating 'very serious' arson attack on home and car in Bangor

The car was completely burnt out and damage was done to the front door of the property.

A CAR AND house in Bangor, Co Down, were set on fire in an arson attack in the early hours of this morning.

PSNI detectives are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

Detective Sergeant McCartan said: “We received a report at around 4.15am this morning of a car and a house on fire in the Ashbury Gardens area.

“Officers attended the scene, along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, who extinguished both fires.

“It was reported that two masked men in dark clothing were seen dousing the car and house in accelerant and setting them on fire, as well as smashing windows, before making off.

McCartan said the car was completely burnt out and damage was done to the front door of the property.

“Two people were in the house at the time, however, thankfully, they were able to get out and no injuries were reported,” the detective said.

“This was a very serious incident, where a property was set on fire with a clear intent to endanger life. Our enquiries are ongoing and we would appeal to anyone who saw anything or who has any information, including dash-cam, CCTV or other footage, to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 234 of 04/01/26.

“Alternatively, you can submit a report online using the non-emergency reporting form via psni.police.uk/makeareport or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at rimestoppers-uk.org.”
