Man charged over fatal assault of woman at house in Portlaoise

The victim has been named locally as Adina Raluca Constantin.

A MAN HAS been charged in connection with the fatal assault of a woman in Portlaoise over the weekend.

The man, who is in his 70s, was arrested after gardaí and emergency services responded to an incident at a house on Church Street shortly after 12.30pm on Sunday.

The woman, who was in her 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene. She has been named locally as Adina Raluca Constantin.

She was originally from Romania and had been living in Ireland for the last 15 years, and was working in a medical clinic in Portlaoise.

The accused is due to appear before Portlaoise District Court at 10.30am this morning.

Gardaí said investigations into the fatal assault are ongoing.
