Man due in court after alleged assault on garda in Cork city

The garda member received medical treatment at hospital following the assault, and is currently off duty.

A MAN HAS been charged and is due in court this morning after a member of the gardaí was allegedly assaulted in Cork city on Monday evening.

The alleged assault occurred on Patrick Street in Cork, where multiple gardaí were in high visibility patrol.

The gardaí on patrol stopped and spoke to a man aged in his 30s.

During the course of the interaction, gardaí said that the man “became violent and assaulted” a member of the gardaí. 

The garda member in question received medical treatment at hospital following the assault, and is currently off duty.

The man was arrested and detained at a garda station in Cork city.

He has since been charged in relation to the assault and is due to appear before Cork District Court this morning.

“Investigations are ongoing,” a garda spokesperson said.
