This Audi R8 V10 plus looks like a supercar and drives like one too

Every week we bring you a dream car. You know, the one you’d buy if you won the lottery…

IF I HAD the money I’d buy…

A car with German engineering, outstanding performance and understated supercar looks. A two-seat coupe with a powerful mid-mounted engine that looks menacing but is easy to drive with some usable storage (compared to other supercars, anyway). I’d buy the small and mighty Audi R8 V10 plus.

Why an Audi R8 V10 plus?

The R8 V10 plus is the fastest series-production Audi of all time. Each R8 is built almost exclusively by hand by small, highly qualified teams which give the R8 its unique shape.

Go ahead, admire its super-wide rear with retractable spoiler and those menacing split ‘sideblades’ and detailed yet unfussy grille. It has an unbelievable amount of road presence. But it’s not just a pretty face, it has plenty of pace too with supercar-slaying performance figures.

What’s special about this particular one?

This particular 2017 car is the plus model meaning it has the more powerful 5.2-litre FSI petrol engine, producing 610hp and 560Nm of torque available at 6,500 rpm. Combined with the rapid-shifting seven-speed S tronic automatic gearbox and quattro permanent all-wheel drive system, this car can do the 0-100km/h dash in a blistering 3.2 seconds and goes on to a Bahnstorming top speed of 330km/h.

Styling wise, this car is finished in all black and rolls on 20-inch ’10-spoke Y design’ alloy wheels and comes with a full leather interior and exclusive R8 3-spoke, flat bottomed, multi-functional, performance leather steering wheel.

It also comes with the very slick Audi virtual cockpit, sat-nav and a Bang and Olufsen Sound system that features a 16-channel amplifier with 13 high-performance loudspeakers including centre speaker, two bass speakers in the doors, subwoofer in the passenger footwell and two speakers in each headrest restraint.

What does it look like in action?

Check out pro driver Randy Pobst as he does hot laps in the Audi R8 V10 plus around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. And listen to that engine!

Who else drives one?

A car this epic is of course going to end up in Jay Leno’s famed garage – sure, what doesn’t he have in there?

Action men Jason Statham and Daniel Craig drive an R8 and Anne Hathaway and Kendall Jenner own Spyder versions. Tom Hardy drove a matte black R8 in Dark Knight Rises, but perhaps the coolest and most awesome Audi R8 V10 plus belongs to Tony Stark. And if it is good enough for Iron Man…

It costs €249,950. What else could you get for the money?

Fancy the open-top version of the R8? For the same money, you could have this R8 Spyder.

… or you could have two Range Rover Sports.
