Four A|wear stores remain open following examiner appointment
Following the fashion chain entering receivership, stores in Blanchardstown, Dundrum, Grafton Street and Sligo are still trading.
THE IMPACT OF the recession, property costs and leases were among the reasons why an examiner was appointed to A|wear, said the company.
However, four locations continue to trade following last week’s appointment of Ken Fennell as Receiver. Those locations are Blanchardstown, Dundrum, Grafton Street and Sligo.
Examinership
At the time of his appointment, Ken Fennell of Kavanagh Fennell said:
“The purpose of the Examinership is to re-structure A|wear so as to put the business on a sustainable footing. A key element of the Examinership process is to protect as many jobs as possible. Today’s appointment represents an important step in this process.”
The company stated today that it is “the intention of the Receiver to endeavour to open a further 5 to 6 stores by next week”. They added that it is “undecided at this juncture as to what stores will open”.
Vouchers
In relation to gift cards and vouchers, the Receiver will honour vouchers which were issued during the period of examination – from 8 October – and will do so up until the 24 December.
A|wear has been a high street fixture for almost 30 years and has 31 retail locations in Ireland and nine concession stores in the United Kingdom.
It employs 358 staff across its locations and head office which is based on Grafton Street, Dublin. There are 117 full-time staff and 241 part-time staff between all retail operations and the head office.
