Baby boy in critical condition in hospital following two-car collision in Co Louth

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the collision to contact them.

A BABY BOY is in a critical condition in hospital following a two-car collision in Dundalk, Co Louth.

The collision happened on the R132 at Dowdallshill at around 8pm on Saturday.

The driver of the first car, a woman in her 20s, was removed from the scene and taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda with non-life threatening injuries. 

The infant boy, who was a passenger in that car, was taken to Temple Street Children’s Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

The driver of the second vehicle, a man aged in his early 50s, and a passenger in the car, a teenage girl, were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A technical examination of the scene was conducted by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.

They are appealing to any road users who were travelling on the R132 in the Dowdallshill area between 7.50pm and 8.20pm on Saturday to contact them. 

They are particularly appealing to anyone who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage, to make it available to them.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dundalk Garda Station on 042 938 8400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

A garda spokesperson said investigations into the matter are ongoing.
