TICKETS TO SEE US politician Bernie Sanders in Dublin have sold out in under five minutes.
The socialist senator for Vermont is set to give a talk at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre on Sunday 4 June as part of the Dalkey Book Festival.
The Evening With event will feature Sanders in conversation with economist David McWilliams. The veteran politician was bested by Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary last year, but was credited with persuading the party to adopt a significantly more left-leaning platform.
He’s been travelling to venues across America in the company of new Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez in recent weeks – attempting to build opposition to the Trump presidency in what’s been titled the ‘Unity’ tour.
Tickets for the event went on sale this morning, but sold out in just minutes. The reaction on Twitter was one of disappointment.
Commenting on the announcement of the event earlier this week, festival director Sian Smyth said:
“It is an extraordinary privilege for the Dalkey Book Festival to host Bernie Sanders, we are truly delighted to bring him to Ireland for the first time. He is an iconic political figure of our time, a stunning orator and with such turmoil in the US and globally we are very much looking forward to hearing his thoughts and insights.”
Those who did get their hands on €15 tickets will receive a copy of Sanders’ book.
