I’m looking to buy a new small car and I was wondering which are the best selling models in Ireland?

The answer:

Small cars are popular in Ireland because they are cheap to buy, tax, insure and run. They are usually good value for money and hold that value well.

The Ford Fiesta is the top selling small car both here and in the UK as it has a proven heritage, solid reputation and a cracking chassis.

The Toyota Yaris runs it very close – again, its reputation stands to it. Toyota are known for building reliable cars that last.

The Volkswagen Polo has a great reputation (are you sensing a theme here?), is good to drive and is just like a baby Golf… oh, and Irish people just love Volkswagens!

Which car you choose will often come down to brand loyalty. Or if you don’t have a preferred manufacturer in mind, you can simply shop around for the car that gives you the most bang for your buck in terms of spec and finance offers.

According to SIMI Motorstats, this year’s top selling small (B segment) cars are:

1. Ford Fiesta with 3,824 units sold
2. Toyota Yaris with 3,660 units sold
3. Volkswagen Polo with 2,252 units sold
4. Dacia Sandero with 1,921 units sold
5. Renault Clio with 1,900 units sold
6. Opel Corsa with 1,891 units sold
7. Hyundai i20 with 1,782 units sold
8. Skoda Fabia with 1,544 units sold
9. Nissan Micra with 1,290 units sold
10. SEAT Ibiza with 1,131 units sold
11. Peugeot 208 with 789 units sold
12. Hyundai ix20 with 626 units sold
13. Kia Rio with 534 units sold
14. Audi A1 with 343 units sold
15. Honda Jazz with 336 units sold

As you can see, there is plenty of choice, with lots of different manufacturers offering small cars to suit a variety of budgets from the Dacia Sandero, priced from €10,190 to the A1, priced from €21,540. Happy car shopping.
