Man found dead after Edenderry house fire named locally as brother of woman killed there last year

Christopher Holt is the brother of Mary Holt, who was killed alongside her four-year-old grandnephew Tadhg Farrell at a fire in the same property in December.

LAST UPDATE | 24 Mar

A MAN WHO died following a house fire at a property in Edenderry earlier this morning has been named locally.

Christopher ‘Crunchie’ Holt is the brother of Mary Holt, who was killed alongside her four-year-old grandnephew Tadhg Farrell in a fatal fire at the same property in December.

It’s understood Christopher had been living in the burnt out property for several months.

Emergency services attended the scene at Castleview Park shortly after the alarm was raised this morning, where the fire at a domestic residence was later brought under control by local fire crews.

Sources have said gardaí are keeping an open mind on the cause of the blaze but one strong theory, after initial investigations, is that the fire was started accidentally.

The father of Tadhg Aaron Holt, is serving a lengthy jail term for drugs offences.

In a statement, gardaí confirmed that the body of an adult man was found inside the building.

The remains have yet to be formally identified, and no cause of death has been determined yet.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place, the results of which will determine the course of the investigation.

The scene has been preserved for a full forensic examination, and gardaí said their inquiries are ongoing.

Investigating officers have also appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
